You Know You're Right - Nirvana

"You Know You're Right" by the well-known band Nirvana can be seen as a production with a message of resignation and pain; where Cobain gives it to us from the beginning with the repetition of 'I will never' a renunciation of the struggle and a distancing of promise and commitment... but this causes us an incognita of what struggle is he talking about? Well, it is believed that with the personal relationships that the singer was going through at the time and his own internal struggle.

This last point is reinforced by the fact that this song was the last studio recording of the band before Cobain's death.

Enjoy The Silence - Depeche Mode

The so representative piece of the band Depeche Mode begins with an instrumental that takes us into the song and we start the lyrics with "Words like violence", a phrase that gives us an idea about the message of the song.

The song suggests that in silence lies the true essence of connection and understanding between people, beyond words that can be empty or even hurtful.

The refrain 'All I ever wanted, all I ever needed is here in my arms' reflects a longing for intimacy and understanding that transcends verbal communication. The repetition of these lines throughout the song emphasizes the idea that what is essential in relationships is in physical presence and affection, not in the exchange of words.

Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Unlike the two previous productions, Red Hot Chili Peppers intervenes with a song full of energy and love for life. It speaks of an attitude of living without restrictions and embracing creativity through a collage of images and metaphors.

The chorus 'Can't stop, addicted to the shindig' encapsulates the idea of not being able to stop, being hooked on the party, on life itself. The song speaks of rejecting a life of imitation and embracing originality ('Choose not a life of imitation').

Instant Crush - Daft Punk

'Instant Crush' is a love/dislove song. Casablancas sings to a girl for whom he feels more than just friendship. From the opening lines of the lyrics ("I need just a little while to be with you / after all it's all we can afford") it's clear that she's either far away or too busy. Presumably it is the latter since, on more than one occasion, Casablancas refers to another man who is also in love with his beloved and for whom, apparently, she also has feelings. "We can never be alone again," Casablancas sings in the refrain, longing for the company of a girl he knows he's already lost forever. "Now I know what I want to say / But not where I want to go / So I cling to this friend / As easy to open as a door." Does he mean that this impossible love hurts him so much that he decides to drown his sorrows in drink? Actually, this is a more complex lyric than it seems that gives rise to more than one interpretation.

The Night We Met - Lord Huron

Lord Huron's song 'The Night We Met' is a melancholic piece that evokes the nostalgia and pain of love loss. The lyrics reflect an emotional journey in which the narrator longs to return to the past, specifically to the night he met his love, before everything changed. The repetition of the phrase 'Take me back to the night we met' underscores a deep desire to return to a happier and purer time, before the relationship deteriorated.

Musically, Lord Huron is known for his style that combines elements of folk, rock and pop with an ethereal, dreamy atmosphere. 'The Night We Met' is no exception, with its enveloping sound and introspective tone, the song creates an intimate space for the listener to immerse themselves in their own reflections and memories. The song gained popularity after being part of the soundtrack to the Netflix series '13 Reasons Why', which helped it resonate with a wider audience, many of whom identified with its themes of remorse and longing.

From The Start - Laufey

The song 'From The Start' by Laufey, an artist known for her style that fuses jazz with modern influences, addresses the issue of unrequited love and the emotional distress it can cause. The lyrics reveal the perspective of a person who is secretly in love with someone who doesn't feel the same way. The narrator describes how she feels uncomfortable and silent when they are alone, and how it hurts her to hear the object of her affection talk about another person as her soul mate.

The song uses the metaphor of Cupid, the Roman god of love, to illustrate how the narrator feels every time she talks to the loved one. Although she sounds 'like a crazy woman', she can't help but feel that Cupid has shot an arrow to her heart. The repetition of the phrase 'Confess I loved you from the start' underscores the depth and persistence of her feelings, which have been present from the beginning of their relationship.
